If you think about the purpose of a roof, it's basic function is to provide shelter.  Whether it is the roof of a tent trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or other type of recreational vehicle care for your roof is important.  Here are some things to consider about roof care:

• Conduct regular inspections of your roof
• Keep the roof clean.  Clean your roof four or five times throughout the year depending on how often you use it and where it is parked
• Depending on the type of roof that you have (metal, rubber, vinyl) you will need to use different products for cleaning
• For most roofs, you can  use soap and water to clean off  dust and debris
• Regular cleaning of your roof can prevent stains or black streaks from occurring
• Use a mild laundry detergent for cleaning the roof of your RV.  (Before going on to something stronger check with the manufacturer or dealer to see what they recommend specifically.)
• When cleaning the roof be sure to inspect any seams around vents or sky lights
• Check for leaks by inspecting any areas where caulking has been applied
• Inspect the condition of any vents or other covers
• Check all antennas, air conditioning units or any other items found on the roof
• When possible park you RV under cover as this will help shield the roof from the elements.
